Welcome to the Hagenbeck's

A project by Chiara Marcella, Pamier Hilal, and Sebastian Hagen Ziemann

"Welcome to the Hagenbeck's" is a work that exposes colonial continuities and the media representation power of the Hagenbeck family. Using simple mouse controls, visitors can drag historical family members onto a virtual carousel. With each added figure, the scene dynamically darkens, while AI-generated voices and an adaptive sound design contextualize the events.

For the implementation in the Unity Engine, we divided the technical and artistic tasks within the team—my work involved the close integration of 3D modeling, sound design, AI prompting, and programming.

The installation is explicitly designed for exhibitions and museums and has already been presented at the MOM Art Space, as well as at the Phoenix Festival in the Pop-Up-Space of the Kreativgesellschaft Hamburg.
